Our Goal

OUR GOAL

To provide a unique environment where folks who have experienced trauma can openly and safely talk. We strive to respect, validate, and learn from each other.

ACHIEVING OUR GOAL

Achieving our goal requires cooperative collaboration amongst members and staff. Members posts remain appropriate and relevant to topics. Terms of Service are clearly posted to help members maintain the dignity of the board. Members of this group are at a stage in their healing to independently regulate their own behavior, as well as keeping themselves safe while on the forums. Staff regularly monitor posts and replies to ensure the board remains a safe and comfortable environment of learning for everyone.

As a friendly and kind community, we validate each other as equally special and significant.

These forums are active and the community not too large or too small - about 400 post per day. There are many forums on different topics. The topics range in subject matter also. You are welcome to interact as you feel comfortable.

This is a safe place for members. We encourage building coping skills, learning from each other and material shared. We discourage sharing explicit memories of past abuse. We feel that processing memories be done with professionals. There are no practicing therapists on these forums. Therefore, topics that call for therapist type responses are discouraged.

Feel free to look around. Realize that, as a guest, your view of the forums is minimal. These forums are otherwise private to the public view and/or search engines.

We have literally hundreds of articles and provide workshops for everyone. Please feel free to email me anytime with questions. I am also providing a tutorial that should help with navigating our site.

The very best to you,

APA Psychcritique - blog - Comments on "Sybil Exposed" Debbie Nathan

Post by felicity on 6/5/2012, 4:34 pm

This is a great blog - and interesting comments - one by Richard Kluft, M.D., Ph.D. concerning when Debbie Nathan participated in a conference presented by him.

It goes right to the heart of the credibility of Debbie Nathan and seriously damages her ability to present subjective sources in the book "Sybil Exposed".

Here is just a bit of what you will read in this blog - http://psyccritiquesblog.apa.org/2012/05/dissociative-identity-disorder-legitimate-or-faddish-diagnosis.html

What Ms. Nathan does not address, and what her sycophantic reviews fail to confront, is that Ms. Nathan’s behavior in this matter has been grossly inappropriate and raises serious ethical issues.
My patient has suffered grievously for Ms. Nathan’s violation of her privacy. I had promised her that her confidentiality would be safeguarded. She feels betrayed by me, and her therapy has been seriously undermined. In her own words, she feels that I have failed her, and that Ms. Nathan has violated and r*ped her all over again. The only reason litigation against Ms. Nathan has not been initiated is that my patient and her family fear even further erosion of their privacy. I have had to discontinue presenting the type of case conference I have found most useful in teaching the psychotherapy of dissociative disorder patients because I cannot risk inadvertently making possible another instance of the devastating type of damage Ms. Nathan has done to my patient. from Psyccritiques blog - written by: Richard P. Kluft, M.D., Ph.D.

After reading this, can you imagine how you would feel if you were this patient. I cannot believe that anyone can consider anything she writes as credible - jmho.

APA Psychcritique - blog - Comments on "Sybil Exposed" Debbie Nathan

This is a tragedy and a travesty. Nathan's book was destructive enough, but her campaign to impugn those of us with DID and the people who treat us is becoming a sick crusade. Well, greed and grandstanding can get a person only so far...she is not a great talent, she just happened on a topic that the public at large found engaging and, as I have said before, is probably being supported, even paid, by the FMS....she is making her bucks on the backs of abused children...my heart goes out to those whom she has hurt. Thanks for sharing the article...so very sad, but important to know about.

This is so upsetting I can't even verbalize how I feel!!! Here we all are suffering with DID and struggling to find a therapist who believes in it and she's making it worse! I'm enraged. Thanks, felicity

So sad that this occurred. To trust and have it repeatedly broken is how many of us got to where we are now, and not in a good way. I hope that others will learn from this mistake.

This is such a great article, I thought that it should be 'bumped' for folks to read again and those who missed it.
