OUR GOAL

To provide a unique environment where folks who have experienced trauma can openly and safely talk. We strive to respect, validate, and learn from each other.

ACHIEVING OUR GOAL

Achieving our goal requires cooperative collaboration amongst members and staff. Members posts remain appropriate and relevant to topics. Terms of Service are clearly posted to help members maintain the dignity of the board. Members of this group are at a stage in their healing to independently regulate their own behavior, as well as keeping themselves safe while on the forums. Staff regularly monitor posts and replies to ensure the board remains a safe and comfortable environment of learning for everyone.

As a friendly and kind community, we validate each other as equally special and significant.

These forums are active and the community not too large or too small - about 400 post per day. There are many forums on different topics. The topics range in subject matter also. You are welcome to interact as you feel comfortable.

This is a safe place for members. We encourage building coping skills, learning from each other and material shared. We discourage sharing explicit memories of past abuse. We feel that processing memories be done with professionals. There are no practicing therapists on these forums. Therefore, topics that call for therapist type responses are discouraged.

Feel free to look around. Realize that, as a guest, your view of the forums is minimal. These forums are otherwise private to the public view and/or search engines.

Just scoped out your newest venue... Anchorage eh... It's going to be a heck of a commute to get the stuff in your van and go back and forth the the conference.

I'd recommend you have a full tank of gas for the trip.

Looks good.

Nah...... I go to Anchorage to visit Beverly (one of our directors - you remember her) at least 2 x a year - the flight is not that expensive and we got a really good deal on rooms - I love Anchorage - a beautiful city and really nice weather in May.

See you there!!!

This is going to sound so uppercrust. I’m going on a cruise during that time. Let’s see. The Caribbean vs Anchorage?? Caribbean wins! I’ll be thinking about ya’all from the pool. Lol

Believe or not I have a WeightWatchers friend who is taking me. She doesn't want to go by herself. I bought our airplane tickets and I will need to buy any excursion I want to go on. The cruise is a Weight Watcher cruise and is the same one I went on last May as my 'last' cruise/vacation I'd ever take. Life takes strange turns sometimes. I am so excited and grateful to be able to take this trip.

oh my - have a great time.

Yep, I have it on my bucket list to take the cruise to AK someday. My son and daughter-in-law also want to go and have for a long time. It doesn't actually go to Anchorage - there is no port there. I think that it goes somewhere nearby. It is like 10 days from here and not real expensive. I know a lot of ppl who have more money than me who go every year.

I just so love the west coast - the cruise goes up the coast of Washington, Canada, Alaska - an area that I already love - we do take the ferry over to the San Juan Islands already, but man - I would love to see all the whales, wildlife, and scenery - I never had a lot of interested in really touristy areas. Just me.

So, this got me looking up the cost of a roundtrip cruise from Seattle to AK - now I am daydreaming.

This is a video a family posted - not me of their trip.

There are better videos, but I like pretending that is my family Just kidding - but, yeah - they even look familiar. Wouldn't it be weird if I really did know them...... LOL The picture on the front of the video is of the ferry that we take all the time to go to the islands.

I guess I really am a Pacific Coast Girl - whatever that means. don't get me wrong - I will gladly go to the the Caribbean - need to meet some new friends - but, my choice would always be closer to home - if I had one -

Maybe, someday krathyn - we can take that cruise - would be a life-changing event for us.

I read a book (nonfiction) about Alaska many years ago & I don't remember the title so can't find it.

It was an account of a man who traveled around Alaska for a year. All the way up to Barrow. For some reason, it touched me deeply. I don't usually remember books - if I can read at all (am surrounded by books but can't read).

Sound familiar? I'd love to find this book!

hey it would be great to have you both Sals Pals and BPoppe!
I always forget books titles and authors. I am the same way with movies. Can not remember anything like that but usually remember what it was about.

Re: Conference 2018 Anchorage

We have trouble in Seattle because the expenses are so very high that we have been lucky to even break even with expenses and 230 attendees - right? Well, Barbara can attest to that.

So, some of our speakers and attendees have brought up the idea of having the Oct conference in Portland. Because, Portland is much like AK - they don't have the high state taxes - still expensive, but not so bad - right. We will see how the Anchorage conference goes - and, maybe - next year in Portland.

Hey - I just got a call from our website host - I built this website to promote the Anchorage conference - https://www.didsupport.net/ last month - a brand new website - evidently, we got 5,400 unique views on the site - in one month!! And, some 6,000 unique views on our conference site https://www.didsupport.net/ I was actually shocked - hmmmm - sounds like lots of folks very interested.

I am so looking forward to seeing everyone. Anyone who does need help, we will do all we can - as usual -

not sure yet.
I was looking at Red Lions, there is one by the Columbia River and one by the Airport, then I made the error of booking a room at the Airport one and having to cancel it.
I cancelled a week in advance of my predicted stay and they refunded: 0 of my money.
With a weeks notice I think i should have got about 50% back. I can see not refunding if the cancellation is within 48-24 hours.
I am going instead to an EconoLodge this time, and their policy is full refund up to the day of the predicted stay. However, this is not a place with banquet or class rooms, it is just a place to stay.
I was recently at a cat show in a Doubletree which has nice amenities and has exhibit areas and classrooms as well as a full restaraunt and bar on the premises, but i did not check on the prices of rooms or how to book the exhibit hall.
